4 Reasons Why You Should Build an Email List

I hate to tell you this but those thousands of followers you have on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook—you don’t own them. What I mean is that you don’t control the content that they see daily in their social newsfeed. Think about it, how many times has Instagram changed their algorithms leaving you to figure out how to get your engagement back to normal?

Frustrating? I know—but what isn’t frustrating are email lists. Here are a few reasons why you should build your email list:

You control the communication

Having an email list means that you control the content and the communication. You can be real with your subscribers by asking them questions about their specific needs and learn about the current struggles which they face in their business. Also, you control the content your subscribers will see, and the frequency in which it will be seen. When you upload new content on Instagram, the chances of your target audience viewing your post varies because of Instagram’s unique algorithm. Scheduling an email for a specific time creates a sense of assurance, knowing your selected subscribers will receive your new content at a given time

Email lists provide certainty

There’s no guarantee that once you place an ad on Instagram or Facebook, your next potential client will see it. You may spend hundreds of dollars for your ad to reach thousands of people, yet how many of them will actually invest in you? Don’t get me wrong! Digital advertising is great for brand awareness and offers better results than print advertising but it does not always promise the results you desire. If you are looking for certainty and assurance in knowing that your message is not going to fall on deaf ears, you must communicate to your email subscribers. When you send emails to your subscribers you KNOW the number of people who will receive it and that you WILL receive responses that can be tracked and measured.

Opportunities for testing new products and services

They are your first responders

Sending an email to your subscribers is the best way to test new services and products. Ideally, they are your "first responders”, because they are the first people you would want on the scene or at the forefront of a new launch of a product or service. Implementing such a strategy will allow you to identify and distinguish favorable and least favorable products and services. For instance, instead of investing in a Facebook ad with hopes to attract attendees for your next event, try promoting the event announcement to your email subscribers. Likewise, your list is perfect for asking tough questions, such as “I’m thinking of launching this new service for $___, can you tell me what you think? And if this is something that interests you?.”

Mostly likely to invest in you

Your email subscribers are the ones who will most likely invest in you. If they didn’t want to invest in you, they wouldn’t have subscribed to your email. When someone subscribes to your list, they are saying, ‘hey ____ I want to hear what you have to say and I want to hear from you more often”. Your subscribers are committed to being apart of your dream. Yet, your Instagram followers are interested solely in the content you in which you post. In fact, every time you purchase an ad on Facebook, you are investing in Mark Zuckerberg’s dream—but what if he decides tomorrow to shut down Facebook and pursue a new dream? What will happen to those 25k followers you spent months gaining? Imagine all of those connections from past social media platforms such as Vine, that are now lost in history—think about it, whatever happened to your MySpace friends? Now’s the time to invest in your dream with those who have proven to invest in you!
